Rani Mukerji’s young cousin Ayaan Mukherjee has a lot to look forward to with his directorial debut. Not only is Karan Johar producing his film Wake Up Sid starring Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma but has now added Naseeruddin Shah in the cast to play Ranbir’s father.

Says Naseer, “Yes, I’ve been approached by this young filmmaker. But I didn’t know he is Rani’s cousin. So is Rani also part of the cast?”

Speaking of Ranbir

About Ranbir, Shah adds, “He is wonderful. I saw him in Saawariya and found him to be self-assured.”

There’s another reason why Naseer likes the idea of playing Ranbir’s father. He’s fond of Rishi Kapoor, the young actor’s dad.

“I haven’t watched any of his films since he became rotund and goateed. But in his heyday, he was a very likeable actor. So yes, I’m open to doing Ayaan’s film, provided it’s not a typical father’s role. Nowadays I’m being offered the roles of fathers with one arm, one leg, one eye or half a brain. None of that for me, please,” says Shah.

Photo bhi chalega

Naseer was last seen as a talking photograph in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. “I received more compliments for being a picture on the wall in that film than for anything I’ve done for the rest of my career. I haven’t seen the film yet, though. I don’t feel audiences get upset when they see me in small parts.”

Wake Up Sid is a forthcoming Hindi film that stars Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor in pivotal roles. Produced under Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and directed by debutante Ayaan Mukherjee, who earlier was assistant director of Ashutosh Gowariker in Swades and Karan Johar in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.The movie is scheduled to release on October 2, 2009.

The film is Mumbai-based romance about urban relationships and revolves around a good looking young guy (Ranbir Kapoor) who falls for an older and simple woman (Konkona Sen Sharma), a writer from Kolkata. [4]Anupam Kher will be seen as father of Ranbir Kapoor.
